I need some suggestions for my 16 yr old nephew.  For those who remember from past posts - he joined our household in the Spring.  He decided to attend public school this semester - but has now asked us to come home to finish his high school.  (yeah!)  I will take any and all suggestions for high school stuff - but specifically I need math and reading materials.

FYI - we are eclectic and put together our own curr. and will be issuing his diploma as a private school.  I want to let his interests quide us - skate boarding, bikes, guitar, auto mechanics and auto body, construction.  He is very active - so no probs with PE, loves music - so we have electives covered.  He and DH have plans to buy an old car and rebuild body and engine - so there's science (plus with the animals we are aquiring - zoology! lol)

MATH - he has a math LD - has a hard time with any number concepts.  So I am putting together an economics class based on income and budgeting (researching how much diff. careers pay and cost of living in an apt. vs. house etc., etc.) But that makes one math credit - i am having brain freeze after that.  Does anyone know any "algebra" books, programs for a 16 yr old that doesn't completly grasp fractions? Or any other high school math stuff?

LANG ARTS - I know that not everyone will have a love for reading like I do <grin> - but I at least would like to have some reading materials to present to him.  He does have musicial catalogs and skate boarding magazines - but any suggestions for a little more "meatier" reading?  He says he has only read two books in his life -   Grind  a skate boarding story, and Maniac Marvin .  I have never heard of this one - and he might not have the title exact.  But it is about a kid who keeps moving from one place to another without ever having anywhere to call home or anyone to call family.  So any suggestions?

Plus any other suggestions are always welcome.  thanks in advance!

I forgot to add his goals - at the present time he says he does not want to go to college (might be only b/c he is having such a hard time with high school) but I think he could do college if he decides to  - I don't want to rule it out.  But he is researching army and air force careers - mechanic or helicopter pilot.
